Training and Work Experience Permits (TWES)
These permits are obtained by UK employers to enable people to come to the UK for periods of Training and Work Experience.
How do I qualify for this type of permit?
- You must have a UK employer willing to employ you under this scheme.
- A Training permit must lead to a recognised professional qualification. A Work experience permit is to undertake a period of work experience in the UK and does not require any qualification at the end.
- You must have the academic qualifications or work experience at the necessary level of NVQ or SVQ Level III or above to meet the requirements of the scheme, and the Training and Work experience being offered to you must meet this criteria as well.
How do I apply and do I need entry-clearance?
You will need to apply for entry-clearance from the British High Commission once the TWES permit has been obtained by your UK Employer, if the permit is valid for six months or more. You will not need to apply for entry-clearance if the TWES permit is valid for less than six months. Breytenbachs will be able to assist you in this regard.
Some Rules and Restrictions on TWES permits:
- The most important restriction is that TWES permits are only granted on condition that both Employer and Employee understand that the Employee must return abroad at the end of the TWES permit, and cannot switch to the full Work Permit Scheme, except in the most exceptional circumstances.
- Work Permits (UK) do not issue TWES permits for persons in the sports and
entertainment sectors.
